Presenting the EVO 2010 T-Shirt Designs, by Meat Bun!
|
This year we’ve gotten the incredibly awesome guys at Meat Bun to produce not one, but two Evo shirts! It’s particularly appropriate this year that we host Evo at Caesar’s Palace. When you think of Caesar’s you think of the grandeur of intense competition, the gladiator’s spirit, and of course half-naked dudes. All of these are all totally EVO, except for the naked part.
So in honor of gladiatorial Rome and all it represents, I present our first T-Shirts design. These shirts will be on sale all weekend at EVO, but going to EVO is the only way to get one. Every EVO competitor will also receive a free T-Shirt, which is plenty cool, but not quite as cool as this one. Hail Caesar! |
EVO Public Service Announcement
The deadline for registering for Evo 2010 is rapidly approaching. Online registration is mandatory, so you must register before the event. This year the cutoff date for Evo 2010 online registration is July 5th, 2010, at 11:59pm pst. If you haven’t done so, register now before you forget about it over the holiday weekend.
This is especially important if you have won a EVO 2010 Seed. You STILL need to register to be awarded the seed.
Also, anyone bringing anything into the Bring Your Own Console area, that isn’t a console (Arcade machines, monitors, stream setups, pcs), Must have MrWizard’s approval to do so. Please private message him on SRK or email him at mrwizard@evo2k.com to let him know your intentions. This is to preserve the integrity of the ballroom and the power that is allowed into the breaker. You will be turned away at the event if you do not have approval.

Yes you can still get a hotel room at Caesars for $149, if you call 866-227-5944 and ask for the Evolution 2K rate. The rate code is SCEV20 (The 0 is a zero).

Be Evo Top Ken Masters player, win the authentic cowboy hat!
In honor of Ken Masters new “cowboy” alternate costume in Super Street Fighter IV, the cowboy-loving crew at Stetson has created his real life cowboy hat!
The hat was custom-built by Stetson from the in-game models, and comes with a not only a hand-made leather hat band, but also an inscription: “Made by Stetson especially for Ken Masters.” Stetson’s motto is actually “Made of America” which I have to say is a pretty perfect fit for blonde, California-dreaming, convertible driving, blonde-wife loving Ken Masters (even if he is actually 1/4 Japanese).
How can the Street Fighter-loving rodeo riders of the world get one? With only three in existence, it’s going to be tough. I’ve staked my claim, one his headed for Ono-san’s head, and the other? Stetson is offering it as a prize to the top-finishing Super SFIV Ken player at EVO 2010! You must play Ken for the entire tournament, and you must choose his alternate “Cowboy Ken” outfit.
EVO 2010: First publicly playable build of Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds and Super-Exclusive Mad Catz “Golden Fightsticks”!
The EVO Championship Series is proud to reveal that the 2010 World Finals will also feature Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, playable by the general public for the first time anywhere. Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 producer Ryota Niitsuma will also be making a special appearance alongside his new game, so stop by to play it for yourself and tell him what you think!
In addition, EVO proudly announces the Mad Catz® Street Fighter IV Arcade FightStick™ Tournament Edition as the official controller for the EVO 2010 World Finals. “Tournament players world-wide have turned to Mad Catz® Tournament Edition controllers for their premium components and impeccable build quality,” said Tom Cannon, founder of the EVO Championship Series. In support of EVO’s spirit of top-level competitive play, Mad Catz® will contribute to the Super Street Fighter IV cash prize and produce a super-limited run of exclusive Tournament Edition “golden sticks” to be awarded as prizes to the top eight competitors in the Super Street Fighter IV tournament. The only way to get one of these sticks is to place in the top eight, so practice up! For more information on Mad Catz® products please visit madcatz.com.
All three days of tournament action will be streamed live on the Internet. Vuvuzelas BANNED at EVO, Super SFIV Rule Change, BtM no cameras/ cell phones allowed!
Just a few updates from Evo.
Vuvuzelas are banned at EVO2010. They are the loud horns that are appearing at World Cup soccer matches. Any person in possession of one of these will be immediately ejected from the tournament hall for the weekend.
We are changing the ultra rule in regards to winning a match. The winner will be allowed to change the ultra, but has to pick his ultra before the loser has to pick theirs. This will not affect a blind pick selection for game 1 of a set. Blind is still character and ultra blind off the bat.
During the Bang the Machine screening, there will be NO CELL PHONES or CAMERAS allowed in the hall. This is a unreleased movie and we are treating it like one. Any person in possession of one of these items will not be admitted. Please leave them in the car or hotel room as we will not be holding on to them for you.

Bang The Machine Showing At Evo 2010!
Also, after a long haitus, Bang the Machine will be making a comeback to Evolution this year. Profiling the lifestyles of some of the Street Fighter II tournament scene’s top competitors, the documentary follows them from Sunnyvale to Las Vegas as they duke it out for the right to secure a spot on Team USA. The prize-a trip to Japan, home of the world’s most advanced video gaming culture, and the chance to take on the best in a championship match between the two national teams. While capturing the testosterone and near-obsessive intensity of the slick-fingered youths, director Tamara Katepoo also brings a sociological eye to the hierarchical politics rife in the East Coast / West Coast cliques, exposing a conflict that resurfaces in a volatile Tokyo showdown that threatens to tear apart Team USA. BANG THE MACHINE presents a refreshingly entertaining, insightful portrait of a youth culture tapped by a flourishing gaming industry larger than Hollywood. Intriguingly, it is a culture where the racial power structures of society at large are inverted (Asian Americans command the most respect, while the most feared and admired are the Japanese) and where American identity emerges precisely when they are confronted by a foe more foreign than any amongst them,
Executive Producer Peter Kang will be on hand to field any questions you might have about the movie. No recording devices of any kind are allowed.

Daigo Squeaks by Justin Wong to Win Evo 2009 Street Fighter IV Championship!
In perhaps the closest final matchup in Evolution history, Daigo Umehara’s Ryu defeated Justin Wong’s Balrog 2-3, 3-2, to take the Evo 2009 Street Fighter IV title. After some early struggles, Justin surprised everyone by switching to Balrog. The move paid off, as Justin was able to win the first set of the finals, avenging his earlier loss to Daigo in the tournament. The final set of the match came down to the final game. In the end Daigo’s strong positional play allowed him to squeek by and take the title.
Top L.A. player Ed Ma, who placed second in the recent U.S. Super Battle Opera qualifiers, proved that he’s still got the stuff by placing 3rd.
If you missed the action, you’ll be able to download HD videos of all the top Evo matches on IGN starting this Friday, July 24. Not all the matches will be up immediately but will be posted over the next few weeks. Once they ready for download, they can be easily found on the IGN homepage. As an IGN Insider, you will get unlimited HD downloads of all available matches as well as other IGN benefits.
Evo 2009 Live Broadcast This Weekend!
If you’re not lucky enough to be here in Vegas with all of us, you can catch all the action from your own browser. Check the Evo live broadcast site throughout the weekend for live streamed matches, bracket updates, and photos of the event.
Grab HD Evo 2009 Content from IGN Insider
Evo traditionally produces a DVD capturing the highlights of our annual festivities. Instead, this year we’re really excited to bring you a faster, better way to relive your favorite Evo moments: we’re teaming with IGN Insider to produce and host the post-tournament matches that we would normally ship to you on a DVD.
Basically for you guys this mean higher quality Evo content at a quicker pace and cheaper price. Match footage will of course be direct-feed in HD with crowd audio and commentary, and will go online with clickable brackets and other fun stuff. You get all this not for our usual DVD price of $30 to $60, but for just 15 bucks (I’m doing my best Billy Mays here, does it show?), which is a 25% discount off IGN’s usual rate. Who loves ya? Finally, on top of all the EVO juice, you’re still an IGN Insider for a year, which means you get a bunch of other stuff for free all year. That’s not just “cheaper,” that’s just straight up cheap–no brainer for any big fighting game fan.
We’ve been working really hard for nearly a year to make this the best, most visible EVO ever, so get hype, and tell a friend, and show IGN that fighting games DO still matter (and that they should be doing more coverage of them) by signing up.
